In this section we will give you some of the insight behind some of the mixes and music The "K" has worked on.
The Mix Kid and DJ GK: The Madness Mix - This was my first project with long term school friend The Mix Kid (DJ Ears). The mix was compiled using old skool technology, by using tape bouncing. This mix includes music from the genres of pop, rap, hip hop and house.
The Mix Kid and DJ GK: What Is This - This is another example of snippet tape bouncing.
Stan Ridgeway: Camouflage - This had long been a favourite track of mine, so in 2003 it got the mix treatment. I still follow Stan and his music today.
Tinman: Eighteen Strings - This is one of my top tunes and often features in my sets. Although really great as it is, I decided to tweak it a bit and this is the result ( youtu.be/ytFSwjV7EME )
Deja Vue : Opportunities - This is a cover of the Pet Shop Boys classic track.
Deja Vue: Popcorn - Who doesn't love popcorn, and everyone's had a crack at playing this one. For the Deja Vue version I play the bassline on the Yamaha DX7 with drum played on the Roland R8 and Boss Dr-660.
Deja Vue: Hideaway - One of my favourite Erasure songs. My voice vocoded via the Korg Microkorg, drums by the Boss Dr-660 and main synths on the Roland XP50 and Casio CTK-671.
Deja Vue: Miserablism - Vocoding through the Korg Microkorg, drums Roland R8M, bassline Yahmaha DX-7, Roland XP-50 and Korg M3R
Deja Vue: Chariots of Fire - main synth on this one was the E-mu Ultra Proteus.
Deja Vue: Portsmouth - Synths E-Mu Ultra Proteus and Roland Fantom Xa, drum Dr-660 (programmed and played live)
Soft Cell: Say Hello, Wave Goodbye (Album Remix) - A mix of the album version, I love this song. Mixed with echo and sweeping phaser effects.
Duran Duran: Careless Memories (Mix) - This was mixed 'dry' to give it that extra edge, bass boosted to add some more thump and some echo for and added twist. ( youtu.be/DPPITjZG5Z0 )
Art of Noise: Spit 2003 - Mad panned echo, reverse echo and added samples
Avril Lavigne: Complicated (DJ GK Remix) - This song holds a secret, can you guess what it is ? Increased tempo, extended start to song, sweeping phaser effect
Art of Noise: Radiobeat - Is from my 2005 AoN remix album called Additional Features. This was 100% fun and 200% luck. It was produced by selecting both radio and tape on an old hi-fi system at Dragon Studios. The result was Radio 1's Steve Wright mixed with Art of Noise's Beat Box.
Art of Noise: Snaps - Following Radiobeat the infamous hi-fi was used to mix this track by 'bouncing' various mixes of this song together.
Technotronic: Shake Your Body (Gaz's Mix) - "I don't understand what's going on here"
Broken Down - His first release since his EP. This was a track that he started for Deja Vue, but was put on one side following their break-up.
